McDonald’s is one of the most popular and accessible fast food restaurants across the globe with 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries. Most well known for their burgers, nuggets and fries, McDonald’s is not exactly a keto dieter's idea of heaven. However, we've researched their menu and nutrition information to help you understand what to eat at McDonalds on the Keto diet.
According to information from their website, there are 27 keto options available at McDonald’s with less than 20g of carbs.
Essentially the only way to eat keto at McDonalds is to just remove the buns from their popular burgers and sandwiches. This gives you a wide range of options under 20g of carbs, with breakfast sandwiches having the least amount of carbs, followed by burgers and lastly chicken sandwiches (since they're breaded and fried).
If bunless burgers or sandwiches are not your thing then the amount of keto options at McDonalds will be reduced to Chicken Nuggets, Small Fries or Apple Slices. The Nuggets have 10g or 15g of net carbs, depending if you choose the 4-count or 6-count and even the smallest size of their famous Fries contains 16g of net carbs, which will take up most of your carbs for the day. That's fine if you're craving those fries and avoiding carbs elsewhere but if you pair it with any other carbs throughout the day, you'll likely be kicking yourself out of ketosis. Lastly, don't forget about your dipping sauces which can quickly and sneakily add up the carbs in your meal.
Unfortunately McDonald’s has removed salads from their menu in the United States so unless they bring them back soon, that's a few less keto options for you to choose from.
