Whataburger is a very popular and well loved burger chain that originated in Texas and now has locations everywhere. Their orange and white pinstripe buildings are a staple in the South but what about for people looking to eat gluten free at Whataburger - are there any options available for them?
We analyzed their nutrition and allergen menus and discovered that there are up to 11 gluten free options to choose from at Whataburger depending on your level of gluten sensitivity. Unfortunately the majority of the menu items on the Whataburger menu are not gluten free. The big question from gluten free diners is does Whataburger have gluten free buns? As of August 2021, Whataburger does not offer a gluten free bun option however burgers and sandwiches can be prepared without bread. However they will still be prepared in shared kitchen spaces and may come into contact with gluten through contamination.
The best gluten free meal at Whataburger is their Cobb Salad or Apple & Cranberry Chicken Salad but be sure to order it with Grilled Chicken because their fried Whatachicken option contains wheat and gluten. Stay away from the Ranch Dressing as well but there are 6 gluten-free dressings and 5 tasty salad add-ons to choose from like Grilled Japanenos, Fire Roasted Mushrooms, Grilled Pepper & Onions, and Avocado.
The other gluten free choices at Whataburger are limited to the French Fries, Hashbrown Sticks and Apple Slices. You can also opt for one of their shakes which are gluten free and should be free from contamination. Unfortunately, eating gluten free at Whataburger is possible but the options are very limited.
